Gentle Cleansers and Their Impact On Your Skin Barrier

Many people just naturally recognize that anything gentle is probably the better alternative or route. So naturally we should want the same thing for our skin. Sometimes it can be safe to go the rough route for skincare. Like for example when you are looking for exfoliating products, you probably want to find something that it going to be a little more grainy and will remove the dead skin correctly. Exfoliating is necessary. However, the problem begins when you start to consistently use rough products on your skin. The first thing to you need to analyze in your skincare is your cleanser.

Products that are too harsh for your skin most likely will have some type of effect on it. Rough products will strip your skin of any natural oils or will make your skin seem tight or dry. If a product that you are using has this effect, you probably need to consider a change.

If you go to a dermatologist most of them will tell you to opt for a gentle cleanser especially if you have more sensitive skin. Your cleanser in your skincare routine is not meant to do all the work. It is primarily for getting rid of any dirt that your skin may have or cleansing it from any oil that does not belong on your skin. The Botanical Cleansing Lotion is a great gentle cleanser that is plant based and not too harsh for your skin. It does not strip your skin of the natural oils but still manages to moisturize it. This is perfect for people with dry skin. The Chamomile Facial Wash is perfect for people with oily skin. This cleanser is also gentle and provides a deep cleanse to help combat breakouts formed by oily skin!

Here are some of the benefits to using a gentle cleanser:

1.) Having a Protected Skin Barrier

When you are using harsh products, it removes the top layer of your skin. This is only good while you are exfoliating, which should only be done occasionally. By using gentle products, you aren't damaging your skin, which can long term lead to collagen damage and premature aging.

2.) Proper Skin Hydration

Like mentioned above, when your cleanser is too rough, you are naturally stripping your skin of the proper hydration and oils that it needs. A good gentle cleanser has naturally hydrating properties and will work to moisturize your skin instead of drying it out

3.) Less Fragrance

I mentioned in a previous blog post how all fragrance was not bad. Despite this, you will find more and more gentle cleansers that have a very faint or soft fragrance. The less fragrance the better! Many of these products with little to no fragrance are some of the best on the market. Some examples include Cetaphil, Cera Ve, or our very own Botanical Cleansing Lotion or Chamomile Facial Wash!

Choosing a Gentle Cleanser That Is Right for You

The next step is now to analyze whether or not you have dry or oily skin so you can choose the proper cleanser type for you. If your skin is more oily, try picking the Chamomile Facial Wash and if you are more on the dry side then opt for the Botanical Cleansing Lotion!

Any cleanser you use, runs the risk of giving you irritation or not working for your skin. Fortunately, gentle cleansers are specifically designed for sensitive skin and will give you less of a risk of harming your skin. Simplicity is key sometimes!
